As St. John’s begins its 191st year of ministry, we step into a new decade in the run-up to our 200th anniversary in 2026. To help build a vision to carry us across this new decade, we have adopted the theme, “10 to 200.” Each year will bring new campaigns and calls aimed at growing this vision and strengthening our parish.
The first element is a strategy to increase our annual giving at a pace that we hope is manageable for the congregation. Thus we are asking all of us to commit to increasing our annual giving by 10% each year for five years, from 2017 to 2021. If we can do this, we will be able to balance the parish’s budget for the first time in many years.
We are emerging from a period of transition, and your support has brought us this far. To reach our “10 to 200” goal of a thriving ministry that makes a difference in our community, we need your renewed commitment. We have enclosed a table that shows what this commitment looks like in terms of weekly giving, at a variety of contribution levels. We hope that you will find a level that suits your household budget. If you are new to annual giving or pledging, you may use this table as a guide to help make your choices. Your commitment to this “10 to 200” vision will enable St. John’s to close its deficit and foresee the growth of the parish.
The annual giving effort is only one part of “10 to 200,” but it is the most important. The financial security it will provide will enable this parish to focus on our core mission of doing God’s work in Brooklyn. Members and long-time supporters are sure to feel the holy spirit in the work that we do this year to serve our community with gladness and singleness of heart. If you are new to St. John’s, we welcome you and extend the warmest of invitations to you to join us in worship and offer your time, talents and treasure in our work.
We see a future in 2026 when we will be celebrating our 200th anniversary with the ability to support multiple, vital ministries in our community, as well as a very full and active membership. Please join us in “10 to 200” to celebrate this exciting time to be a part of
St. John’s worship community!
